I think last paragraph is too jialat. I received gifts that I don't like or unable to utilize it much, I will absorb all its sincerity of the person giving the present and then donate it to the needy after 1 year old to hold on to my minimalist values. 1) Give yourself plenty of time.
Maybe one day I’ll enjoy a life that doesn’t require an alarm or I wake up when my body tells me it’s time to get up. Until then I create a time buffer in my morning. Even if you are a morning person, creating a time buffer to ease into your day will benefit you. It gives you time to think about what’s in store for the day and gives your body a chance to warm up.

2) Create a morning tradition.
Even when I don’t drink coffee or periodically go off caffeine, I still sip something hot in the morning. It’s a good excuse to sit still and wake up a little bit at a time. Don’t like coffee? Try hot tea or even hot chocolate. I’ve had friends who start their day with a soda but that just doesn’t have the same appeal to me.

3) Protect your morning tradition.
Once you’ve figured out what works for you and your day, protect it. It may take awhile to tweak your schedule until you have the time frame figured out. Once you figure out the optimal amount of time to start your day, you can move it earlier or later while still keeping the tradition intact.

4) Prepare the night before.
Being proactive the night before will help you ease into your mornings. This is not new advice, but it’s often something I forget. Programming the coffee pot to be ready when you wake up, laying out clothes, and packing lunches the night before can all bring an element of calm to your day. No one likes feeling rushed or unprepared.

I really don't know how to handle rejection. I always try my best to go for the invitation that I was invited, seldom that I will cancel it if the date, time and location is set. Even if I want to cancel the invitation I would have gave a few days in advance notice. I tried many ways to keep myself in contact with my friends but who cares about friendship? I try my best to inform a few months in advance, I was rejected. A few weeks also rejected. In the end I tried last minute to keep the passion fire burning, I was still rejected. I really feel very lousy when my friends are so hard to invite.

I think family is really important. I really envy my friends with big family, really envy those who can go out with sisters to shopping and eating or husband and children. Family are so much more dependable. Friends always reject my invitation. Outings or just simple meal and worst still my birthday, there isn't one event that I can have 0% unhappiness. Family is too small and I can't invite them to join me in doing the things I like. Relative are completely rubbish. In the end, I am still left alone in this world with no friends, no relative but just a small family. In future, I must create a big family and teach them how to be harmonious and united.

I guess at this age range is probably my most unhappy moments. There are seriously too much similar setbacks disappointment within this few years. Everytime my Mum kept ask me why are you at home? How come never go out with your friends? All I can't answer her is I invite them but they say they can't make it. She will goes like AGAIN?! ;((((

Six keys that have helped us further develop contentment in our lives:

1. Become grateful. It is impossible to develop contentment without gratitude – they are inseparable. And a grateful person is one who has learned to focus on the good things in their life, not the things that they lack. When you begin to question what you have to be grateful for, just start making a list – a literal list of all the good things in your life. Don’t worry about finishing, you don’t need to. The simple discipline of beginning the exercise will undoubtedly shift your focus back to the many good things you already have.

2. Take control of your attitude. A person who lacks contentment in their life will often engage in “when and then thinking” – “when i get _______, then i will be happy.” Instead take control of your own life. Remember, your happiness is not reliant on the acquisition of any possession. Your happiness is based solely on your decision to be happy – and this may be one of the most important life lessons you can ever learn.

3. Break the habit of satisfying discontentment with acquisitions. For many of us, it has been ingrained into our lives that the proper way to diffuse discontent is to purchase the outward item that is seemingly causing the discontentment. Almost no energy is spent determining the true root of the discontent. Are you dissatisfied with your wardrobe? Go buy new clothes. Not content with your vehicle? Go buy a new one. We have gotten into the habit of satisfying our discontent by simply spending more money. We must break that habit. Understand that material possessions will never fully satisfy the desires of your heart (that’s why discontent always returns). The next time you recognize discontentment surfacing in your life, refuse to give into that bad habit. Instead, commit to better understand yourself and why the lack of that item is causing discontent. Only after you intentionally break this habit will true contentment begin to surface.

4. Stop comparing yourself to others. Comparing your life with someone else’s will always lead to discontentment. There will always be people who “appear” to be better off than you and seemingly living the perfect life. But be advised, we always compare the worst of what we know about ourselves to the best assumptions that we make about others. Their life is never as perfect as your mind makes it out to be. You are unique. You are special. And it’s always better that way.

5. Help others. When you begin helping others, sharing your talents, time and money, you will find yourself learning to be content. The practice will give you a finer appreciation for what you own, who you are, and what you have to offer.

6. Be content with what you have, never with what you are. Never stop learning, growing, or discovering. Take pride in your personhood and the progress that you have made, but never become so content that you cannot find room for improvement. Contentment is not the same as complacency. As soon as you stop growing, you start dying.

Damaging affects on our lives:

It become easy to constantly compare our lives to others. Because Facebook/Twitter/Google+ often only tell one side of lifes’ story, it becomes commonplace to compare the worst aspects of our life to the publicized best aspects of others. Add to that the fact that television paints an unreal, often over-glamorized view of the world, advertisements remind us of everything that we still don’t own, and technology changes at light-speed pace. And once you get lost in the comparison game, you enter a never-ending downward spiral. Reality has been replaced by fiction.

There is a constant need to impress. It is human nature to hide weakness and champion strength. We so desperately desire to be well thought of and looked up to. As a result, when we are in the company of others, we try to look our best, put-together, and in control. We hope to impress others… often building walls to hide our true selves in the process. This new, constant stream of virtual relationship muddies the water. There is no longer any opportunity for down-time. We must always be ”on-our-game” trying to hide our weakness and champion our success.

It is tempting to overlook the people right in front of us. We live in a world where we can check to see what anyone else in our life is doing in real-time. There is no need to hear about it later. We can just check right now… and it will only take a second. Unfortunately, when there are only 2 friends in front of us but 200 friends online, it becomes increasingly difficult to focus on the 2. This temptation to see what else is happening in the world is very strong. And it often comes at the expense of the people we are sitting with at the moment.

The urgency of communication becomes greatly exaggerated. In a world where information is easily accessible and interpersonal relationships are always available, the urgency of communication begins to accelerate. Just because our cell phones allow us to be reached at any given point of the day (by voice or text) does not mean that an immediate response is necessary. Our lives continue. Unfortunately, because the world has collapsed around us, there is a growing sense that not giving an immediate response to texts/e-mails is rude. It is not.

There is great opportunity to become overly-dependant on others. When the opportunity to be surrounded and validated by others is constantly present, the opportunity to rely upon those relationships to an unhealthy degree also presents itself. If we can receive feedback and praise from dozens of people at a moment’s notice, the ability to find personal satisfaction diminishes. We lose the ability to find security in our heart and soul – because the rush feels so good when we receive it from others.

There is unlimited ability to ‘sell.’ When relationships are always available, there is never a moment in the day that we can not be busy selling something to somebody. In a world that spins on the foundation of the dollar bill, this can become very dangerous. Whether we are selling material products, intellectual products, or just ourselves, the opportunity to sell is always available. The store never closes. Customers always enter. And if we’re always busy chasing the next sale, there is little opportunity for contentment to take root.

Silence becomes feared. When social media offers the illusion that all of our friends are at all times living in constant relationship, silence is feared. Silence begins to take on the meaning of “missing out” or “loneliness.” When all the world is achatter but you are sitting quietly, it can be a fearful thing. Unfortunately so.

Our hearts are never searched and our lives are never evaluated. The constant flow of relationships and noise around us often distracts us from the most important thing in our lives: our heart and soul. The fear of solitude, the inability to disconnect, the lack of training in meditation, and the difficulty associated in looking deeply into our heart and soul means that we rarely do it. In a world where virtual relationships exist around-the-clock, the discipline to search our heart is rarely developed.

My 21st Birthday Chalet.

I would never let my daughter handle her own 21st birthday chalet because it is so tiring. I would get the whole family involved.

Those promised to come but didn't come and didn't inform, it is really disappointing because there were seriously too much leftover food. My high anticipation for certain people to come but didn't really make me very sad. Those whom I invited but never reply my invitation is much worst, it makes me feel so stupid. Luckily there are 3 pretty mothers who gave me encouraging words; MeiMei, BaoMei & JingJing.

With the combination of good music and excellent earpiece, it can really make you feel like the singer and band is right in front of you and all over you. Or you can feel like you are in a club or concert. That feeling is super great and enjoying. This is life!

A secret of mine; I can't live without my MP3 and earpiece. If I happened to leave them at home, I would go the extra effort, returned back home and take it or else I would feel so gloomy and sense of lost for the whole day. My noisy music and earpiece combined together can get rid of irritating noises from the crowd. Now I had grown sick of the noise pollution around me each time I had my earpiece down. Everywhere is filled with serious irritating noise pollution, especially those high pitched young girls. OMGOSH!

Rule #30 Spend time alone, without distractions. So few people really know themselves, it take away from their ability to know others.

Sometimes we really ignore our real identity. The society tend to make us behave how you want others to see you as. You are totally controlled by the factors and happenings around you shaped yourself. Take myself for example, I really super enjoyed the time and peace I can spend alone but others might perceive that I will be super lonely and encourage me to go out with friends for the sake of showing that I am filled with activities. But the happy thing is I am not controlled by it. I think I have as much alone time as being with others time. There are too many examples everywhere. Too many identities in one single person. Too many clutters, too many thoughts, too many, too many.

The Nurturer

ISFJs live in a world that is concrete and kind. They are truly warm and kind-hearted, and want to believe the best of people. When down on themselves or under great stress, the ISFJ begins to imagine all of the things that might go critically wrong in their life. They have strong feelings of inadequacy, and become convinced that "everything is all wrong", or "I can't do anything right". SUPER LIKE ME!

The ISFJ is warm, generous, and dependable. They have many special gifts to offer, in their sensitivity to others, and their strong ability to keep things running smoothly. They need to remember to not be overly critical of themselves, and to give themselves some of the warmth and love which they freely dispense to others.

I really hate it when managers kept reply the same thing over and over again. I find adulthood have very rebellious and stubborn type of behaviour. If we really want to listen, we will listen. If we want to change, we will change. If what you said doesn't make any logical sense to me, I won't listen and I won't change. So stop wasting your effort and drill the same thing over and over again.

I can say now I prefer my current manager kind of meeting. The flow is more constantly, it doesn't get stuck halfway and kept repeating the same thing over and over again.

Meeting is seriously a waste of time when no one bothers to care about what need to be change. I personally think words is not good enough, action have to be taken to ensure changes are made. This have to depend on the skill of the manager on implementing effective strategy. It would be best if meetings frequency is low and duration of the meeting is short.

Pleasure #4 A familiar smell

There are really certain smells that made me feel at ease, calm me down and make me think of home. I think there are around 3 natural smells that I would take a very deep breath.

1. Charcoal burning
When my Mum was brewing soup using charcoal and the smell float to my room and leave a light smell of burning charcoal. The smell is great, it just make my mood feel so at ease and comfortable.

2. Baby powder
This smell bring me back to when I was still a baby with no stress at all. Everyday job is eat, play and sleep. Life was so much simpler and easy.

3. Paper/ wood burning
Similar to charcoal. It just smell wonderful.

The truth behind attaining work/life balance

So is work/life balance really attainable?

We asked the question in an online survey and 42.53 percent of Singaporeans think it is but say a flexible employer is key. A further 36.02 percent said work/life balance is attainable, but that it is up to them to make it work. 21.46 percent feel work/life balance is not attainable.

As our survey results show, most Singaporeans do believe work/life balance is achievable, provided they either find the right employer or they take matters into their own hands.

This is good news for job seekers because the recent conversations we’ve had with them shows that work/life balance has shot up their priority list. It’s replaced job security now that we’re seeing such strong jobs numbers.

While salary and career progression are also important factors in a job seeker’s decision, it’s the potential for work/life balance that can be the deal breaker in an offer that otherwise ticks all the boxes.

The most common work/life balance approaches we see are compressed working weeks and part-time work. Job sharing and working from home are also becoming more common.

The employers we speak to that have practical and flexible working options in place often say productivity has increased and staff retention and loyalty have improved because their employees’ work/life balance is better. Employers that offer flexible working options to support their employees also gain a good reputation in their industry.

Simple, flexible working options can make the difference between keeping and losing staff at a critical time, when the best employees are needed to drive recovery.

The key is to make available the flexible working options most sought after by employees. A one-size fits-all approach will not work. That’s why over one third of our survey respondents said work/life balance is only attainable if they make it work. It’s important for employers to speak to their staff about the options that will allow them to achieve the desired work/life balance.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, you should first determine what you need to achieve a work/life balance. Then research what policies are in place and try to find examples where they have been successfully applied. Then find a time to talk with your manager about your work arrangements.

It is an investment but it’s worth the effort for both individuals and employers.

Individuals who maintain a work/life balance:
• feel more fulfilment and are usually happier working for an employer that supports their right to make choices between work and home life
• are less stressed and as a result are usually healthier, both physically and mentally
• are more likely to feel in control of their life because they have choices as opposed to feeling as if they are being forced to sacrifice work or other priorities

Employers that offer a work/life balance:
• often say productivity has increased
• retain and attract high quality staff
• have higher levels of staff loyalty
• gain a good reputation in their industry
• will usually have lower employment costs associated to absenteeism

Ultimately, we see flexible working policies as a positive move for both employers and employees and we hope to see continued improvements in this area.

Setting off in the early morning in an Indian style coach bus.

Reached Malaysia and greeted by patches of green.

Our first meal of lunch. Sitting among us are 3 ill-mannered teenagers who snatched food like Aunties. At first sight, I already disliked them. My whole family and friends were seriously offended by these 3. I swear not to pampered my kids like how they are. Disgraceful behaviours.

Still under construction. I never see any construction workers at all. Life for workers here is really great. Back in SG, workers had to work on weekends.

Our tea break; freshly fried prawn crackers and a cup of tea. The crackers quite nice, not those hard kind but is actually prawns plus flour and fried it. It look like crackers thou.

Really feel quite insecure when walking on the path. Who knows when I offended someone and get pushed down the path. I don't even dare to imagine how am I going to get up from it.

The right side is for the staff to live in. Their is so nice but ours is totally effortlessly decorated. How can they do things so simply. I can do better than them and making sure my guests feel satisfied with their stay.

Even their staff were so slacked, everyone kept pushing their difficult tasks to one another. Simple thing like returning money change have to run around the whole resort house to find people for small change.

Want to find staff to set up the Karaoke set also can't spot their staff. If those Karaoke set were put on instructions, we won't have to find their staff as everyone are finding them to set up as well.

Another resort from the same boss as our resort. This resort is so much better and beautiful. They have lot of space for people to stand for fishing activity. Unfortunately this resort is occupied by another SG tour group.

After which, we move our seat to the front. The view was spectacular, feel like we were driving the boat.

On the way back to our resort, we saw this mama dog feeding it puppies. Everyone pass by it will stop to take photos. The mama dog must be wondering what the heck are we doing. It must thinking we are trying to attack them as the mama dog does stare at us with teary eye.

Our meal area way back into the resort. The celling is so cool whereby the staff can use a long stick and pull the celling left and right depending on the weather. The sky is serious pretty.

Our next activity: Kong Ming lantern session. Everyone were busy writing their wishes. This is mine.

Our resort bed room for 6 people. The air-con was super cool during the night time. The temperature setting was serious rubbish as we setted way toward 30 degree was it was still freaking cold. The worst thing is the blanket is damn thin. I had to cover my useful shawl onto my face and neck to break the coldness.

Our spacious living room. The TV set was super dusty and dirty. Don't be cheated by that huge TV. Good to have a huge TV but when come to using it, it is so dusty.

The unglam toilet. Luckily there were no spiders if not I would be so unease to bath in it. The flushing function is so lousily.

On another side of our view, fishermen are busy packing the fishes that were freshly caught for exporting to restaurants.

These fishes in this net feed on spiders and other insects. They also spray water in defend.

I seriously love those dogs guarding the Kelong. All were so bushy and most hilarious is that they sit like a mermaid with their hands neatly placed in front of them.

He is so funny. Whatever he bring out from the net, all cameras will be out and snatch non-stop. He jokingly say he want to put a board next time indicating, one shot for $5. HAHAHHA!

He got bored holding it. I guess the living thing is bored too staying upside down and had to come out from the water everytime when a group of tourist came. It seems so used to this scenario until it won't even struggle. It would obediently and gracefully showcase itself. HAHAH!

You see he got bored again. HAHAHHAH!

The dog suddenly came near us and those people who were scare of big dog started running haywire. HAHAHH!

We are back to the spot where the mama dog was feeding the puppy. Now the puppy is left alone.

We ready to leave Kukup. This is trolley that transport our luggage bags to and fro. At first we were very resistant to put our bag in it when we reached Kukup. But after that we realised we have no choice at all.

On our way to second day lunch. We saw this puppy alone again. Where is your mama?

Our last meal is Kukup. This pregnant cat had to keep coming under our table and wait for food. Not twice but almost around four times. In other part of Malaysia, during meals, we were so busy chasing houseflies. Here, we had look our for cats and chase them off our table. If not when you started eating, they might jump onto your lap and eat your lunch on behalf of you.

I was chit-chatting with my mum friend beside me and we were both saying that despite loving the cat so much but we just simply don't dare to touch it. LOL! I seriously love cat so much that I will dare at it for hours but never will I lay a hand on it. Same for dog and hamsters... because I was bitten by hamster before and chase by a huge dog before. So see see only will keep myself safe from attack. HAHHA!

After which we travelled to several local product shops as well as Tesco and Jusco shopping mall and had our last meal; dinner for the trip and ended our tour.

13 cells Halloween celebration @ Bukit Brown cemetery

Due to the lousy Iphone camera at night, I can only capture this picture with little blue lighting. This our starting point, our start to horror.

I think the event was quite successful. The 13cells facebook comments were all so negative but I think it is not that bad. Maybe it could be due to the first two weeks, they had insufficient preparation, manpower, budget and experience. It is not easy to hold scare people event at a real haunted place. The actors had to overcome their fear for encountering haunted happenings and they also must have strong heart and courage. Overall, I think it is quite worth it.

Now that halloween is over and happy, next is my birthday party. I hope I will have a super successful party.

Wake up when the sun is out.
Let the warmth of the sun warm up my room.
Prepare myself a bowl of cold milk with Kokokrunch or hotcakes with maple syrup or ham & egg.
Slowly get myself ready for work.
Travel slowly to work and enjoy the surrounding with beautiful light blue sky and the not-too-hot sun.
This is total bliss with no rushing and disturbance at all.
I get to enjoyed it already. So satisfied with life.

2 October 2011 - Indonesia

The trip was rather dissappointing that I don't wish to put it into my memory data. The bus was bad, the plan was bad, the surroundings was boring. I remembered when I went to Indonesia when I was younger, we went to temples and caves. I think these places were so much interesting that shopping all day long. The stuff there was cheap but still not that attractive and useful for me. As for the neighbourhood that we past by, villagers were burning rubbish and watching them burn happily. This is really a new interesting sight for me. No wonder Singapore so hazy. Anyway there is nothing much in Indonesia as earlier warned by the tour guide. Nonetheless, it was a good experience.

16 October 2011 - Korean bbq buffet round 2

Round 1 was at Chinatown branch. Now for a second round at the Novena branch. I find this branch much more welcoming than the one at Chinatown. In term of location, it is much more easy to location. The internal space was very big and can accommodate lot of customers. Most importantly is there are seats outside the restaurant which can reduce the bbq smell on our clothes and hair. It is also much more cooler outside but inside was not that bad either with the air-con. As for the food, they had much more varieties with rice, nooodles, pancakes and ice cubes which Chinatown branch don't have. The food are also much more hygience to me and look more appealing. The table is also so much bigger and spacious. Now I am craving for it again. Yummy~

I love bbq white sausage. The meat are delicious too provided that we bbq them to the correct timing. Not raw and not too ripe.

Seems like some of my neighbours regret choosing WP. The whole neighbourhood is so dirty town councils and cleaners don't seems to like working for WP. I am really upset with those who was influences by WP. WP helps the whole nation to speak up but can they also care about the neighbourhood that they are in charge of. Cleaniness is also very important, because we pay tax for it. Seriously dissappointed.

This is really life enjoyment but I had to work. The sound of raindrops dropping down was so smoothening and the rain smell homely too.

I saw some don't love to delete emails or even read them. It end up showing your have xxxx emails unread shown in the MSN. It is cool but when come to finding things, it is quite inconvienent. Especially when it comes to working life, important people start sending important emails and due to the massive emails you received each day, your fail to identified that important mail and that person will come after you. I have a habit of deleting things and keep only the necessary. I feel very happy seeing my inbox empty. I love it clean and neat so I feel my mind lighter. It was a nice feeling.

Rule #20 Chew it 20 times before you swallow. And put your fork down between bites. This is how to make room for actual conversations in your life.

Chew chew chew~ Other than putting in a few conversations, it also helps the stomach to digest the food slowly and properly. Remember, don't ever stress your stomach. Another benefit is you could slow down your time and take a look at the surrounding of interesting happenings. Life is seriously so boring to bury your head on your food and stuff the food into your body very quickly. Therefore when it is time to enjoy your food, do seriously enjoy it to the fullest.

Since young, I don't like read newspaper except for those really interesting ones like paranormal? No matter how my English teacher motivate and encourage us to read newspaper, read the ones that we are interested in, but few catch my attention.

Last big event for the election, I know nothing about all the participating candidates and how competitive it is for my area. I missed all the newspaper articles and I had to research a bit online to know what is going on. Maybe this explained why my language is so weak?; both English and Chinese.

Skipping the newspaper really benefitted me, the newspaper really make the world very complicated and complex. Life supposed to be as simple as possible. It should be like caveman time. I want to pass every minute happily and simply.

Last time I used to say 'YES' to almost everyone and everything. End up I had to multitask and end up doing everything not at my very best. Now I learnt to say 'NO' and I was once being praise by someone.

Saying 'NO' at first like I am very useless and not of any help. But as times goes on, nobody appreciate what I did anyway, instead I was being blamed when I didn't do it well. That is too much for my effort to do more than what I should. Now, after got praised, I feel excellent.

We should really do more of what makes us happier and not because of what others think and feel about you. And also we should know our limit, if we really can't handle too many things, just get help or reduce your commitment.

Just when I had a strong craving for playing MapleStory, I got this shitty problem.
I don't know if it is the problem with the antivirus (I tried deactivate it but no help at all) or some other stupid problem.
Just when I got a nice planned strategy to quickly level up to 4th job advancement right from the start as Level 0 and I can't start playing.
The feeling is really very frustrating.
Another sad thing is my numerous Level 60+ characters expired and deleted. But anyway, I would like to start all over again cause all my SP & AP are messed up and I had been training at shitty places.
I gonna start out professionally. LOL!
By the way, I had contact the Game Master, I hope they really can help me out.
If not Nexon is in Singapore, I would really love to work in the company to catch hackers. LOL!

Jurong Bird Park part of the beautiful entrance with pinko Flamingo and beautiful flowers.

The entrance is filled with lot of pleasant plants, trees and flowers.

Another part of the entrance with ducks. This pond totally had no protection fence, we can enter and the bird can come out as and when they want. Very interactive but the bird won't come out cause it sense and understand the danger of human.

This is what I meant earlier on. All kind of different types and colors of Orchids.

Seems like I need to spend more time with those close friends that I neglect. I really don't like the feeling of being abandoned. As much as I loves being all alone, I would also greatly treasure the precious moment we had as a groups or even a pair.

I kind of hate the elders for telling me about humanity. In chinese is called 人情。Elders always tell me don't 欠人家人情，要有来有往。I think this reasoning only JR, YJ n qian understand. I was also taught not to ask for repay. But still I was being treated as how I treated you. Out of kindness, I introduce you something, if nothing was repay back, I am absolutely fine, but what was returned back was criticisms and grumbles. My mum said that I am stupid enough to be so kind but what returned back was bad outcomes. Until now, I don't even dare to tell her the ugly truth to prevent her from badmouthing my friends again. No matter how hard I tried to save their image but I always end up with feeling my actions were not worth it.

I seriously don't want to help those unappreciative people anymore, it only demoralise me again and again.

I had been trying to stop thinking so much. In fact, I am not thinking much at all and that caused me behaving so purely with thinking about the consequences. But isn't that better? People behave as what they think. If only the whole world could be like this, without those evil and dirty minds.

Some people really think a lot and end up with so many unhappiness because much of the things end up not to his/her expectations.

Seriously, just take life easily. No matter what the time will still moves on and each day will end and restart again. What done cannot be undone, so just learn from it and enjoy that precious processes and experiences.

After breakfast, we went to the swimming pool to chill and saw lot of swallows flying above us. The sky is magically blue and beautiful.

It seems that everything comes in a list format nowadays. “Wash, Rinse, and Repeat” or “Open box, Remove Contents, Try and Assemble”. Maybe it is because when we see things in a list format our brain interprets them as a set of instructions - rules that must be followed.

The proliferation of articles about happiness as of late has been astonishing. Everybody is coming up with the magic formula for finding happiness. I don't know about you, but I need to keep things simple and in perspective at all times.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were a simple set of instructions for living a happy and fulfilled life? How about an instruction manual for life? Something along the lines of “Enjoy childhood, Explore young adulthood, Engage in a rewarding career, and Enjoy life.”

Unfortunately, things are not that easy. That doesn’t mean there aren’t techniques and tips you can use in your everyday life that can help you find happiness and fulfillment as you go through the journey of life. Here's how:

Keep life simple. Far too many of us are always over analyzing and looking for the most complicated way of doing things in life. Sometimes life was meant to be simple – a walk through the park, a simple yes or no answer, or a quiet evening with the family. Don’t try and clutter your life with unnecessary decisions by making everything complicated and complex. Keep it simple!

Practice being satisfied. How many times have you heard someone say, “If only I had a few more dollars I’d…” or “If I just had another day off I could….”? Many people don’t know how to be satisfied with what life gives them. They are so busy wanting more that they squander what life has already given them.

Beware of indecision. Nobody said life is easy, and sometimes you have to make the tough choices. Never put off a decision that you can make today. You may miss some of the best and most exciting opportunities in the world because you were indecisive. Successful people didn’t get where they were at by prolonging or going back and forth on decisions!

Practice cheerfulness. You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it here again – it only takes a few muscles to smile! You would be surprised at how well being cheerful to others can spread like wildfire. We live in a society where it seems that glumness is the rule of order. A simple smile or kind word can spread through our culture like wildfire – not only will you feel better, but those who interact with you will feel better!

Learn to like people. You don’t have to love everyone you encounter, so learn to like people – especially those who are different than yourself. Often you won’t agree with everything they do, or maybe all of their beliefs, but by learning to get along with them you will open your mind up to change – a critical trait that is absolutely necessary in today’s world.

Live and let live. Is it really your concern what the guy across the street wants to do with his life or who he wants to share his life with? Learn to live your life to the fullest and let others live their life to the fullest. None of us is above anyone else, and none of us should think we should be allowed to dictate how another person should live their life.

Adversity teaches. Adversity can be one of the most powerful teachers we will ever have in our lives. You will learn so much about life by overcoming adversity and learning how to face it head on. Adversity often comes dressed in many different outfits, but you will change your life by learning how to deal with it and prosper from it.

Don’t take yourself so seriously. Here is a secret: it’s ok to be a little goofy now and then! You only get one shot at this life, so make the most of it. Have some fun and show your children and those around you that you know how to have fun. You aren’t the greatest gift to mankind this world has ever had – so don’t act like it! You may find you add years to your life, not to mention a ton of laughter!

Have a sense of humor. Laugh, joke, and now and then pick up a cream pie and throw it! Laughter has been shown to help people live longer, reduce their blood pressure, and help them relate to people from around the world.

Practice objectivity. Be objective in your decision-making and risk-taking. Know the facts and avoid letting racial, social, or any other type of bias influence your decisions. Great leaders perform their best when they act based on facts, not on emotion or prejudices. Become a great leader in your life.

Tolerate your own mistakes. You will make mistakes – in fact, you will make so many mistakes you will never be able to list them all. Learn that mistakes happen and the best thing you can do is to learn from them. Don’t spend your entire life dwelling on a mistake you made years ago – learn from it and move on. The world isn’t going to wait while you live in the past.

Forgive yourself. Stop beating yourself up over things that happened in the past - things you did or didn’t do, and mistakes you may have made with others.

Forgiving yourself is a skill so few of us have the ability to accomplish. It's such a shame that we spent a lifetime living in the past and never make it to our full potential in the future. Forgive yourself – and just as importantly, forgive others.

It may seem like a rather long list, but I encourage you to read it and then refer back to it every now and then. You’ll see each one ties into the others in some fashion and that these simple steps really do help you live a more meaningful, happy and fulfilled life.

How Not to Hurry by Leo Babauta

Consider the above quote from Lao Tzu, (perhaps mythical) father of Taoism: how can it be true?

Is it possible to never hurry, but to get everything done?

It seems contradictory to our modern world, where everything is a rush, where we try to cram as much into every minute of the day as possible, where if we are not busy, we feel unproductive and lazy.

In fact, often we compete by trying to show how busy we are. I have a thousand projects to do! Oh yeah? I have 10,000! The winner is the person who has the most insane schedule, who rushes from one thing to the next with the energy of a hummingbird, because obviously that means he’s the most successful and important.

Right?

Maybe not. Maybe we’re playing the wrong game — we’ve been conditioned to believe that busier is better, but actually the speed of doing is not as important as what we focus on doing.

Maybe we’re going at the wrong speed. Maybe if we are constantly rushing, we will miss out on life itself. Let’s let go of the obsession with speed, and instead slow down, stop rushing, and enjoy life.

And still get everything done.

Let’s look at how.

A Change of Mindset

The most important step is a realization that life is better when you move at a slower, more relaxed pace, instead of hurrying and rushing and trying to cram too much into every day. Instead, get the most out of every moment.

Is a book better if you speed read it, or if you take your time and get lost in it?

Is a song better if you skim through it, or if you take the time to really listen?

Is food better if you cram it down your throat, or if you savor every bite and really appreciate the flavor?

Is your work better if you’re trying to do 10 things at once, or if you really pour yourself into one important task?

Is your time spent with a friend or loved one better if you have a rushed meeting interrupted by your emails and text messages, or if you can relax and really focus on the person?

Life as a whole is better if you go slowly, and take the time to savor it, appreciate every moment. That’s the simplest reason to slow down.

And so, you’ll need to change your mindset (if you’ve been stuck in a rushed mindset until now). To do this, make the simple admission that life is better when savored, that work is better with focus. Then make the commitment to give that a try, to take some of the steps below.

But I Can’t Change!

There will be some among you who will admit that it would be nice to slow down, but you just can’t do it … your job won’t allow it, or you’ll lose income if you don’t do as many projects, or living in the city makes it too difficult to go slowly. It’s a nice ideal if you’re living on a tropical island, or out in the country, or if you have a job that allows control of your schedule … but it’s not realistic for your life.

I say bullshit.

Take responsibility for your life. If your job forces you to rush, take control of it. Make changes in what you do, in how you work. Work with your boss to make changes if necessary. And if really necessary, you can eventually change jobs. You are responsible for your life.

If you live in a city where everyone rushes, realize that you don’t have to be like everyone else. You can be different. You can walk instead of driving in rush hour traffic. You can have fewer meetings. You can work on fewer but more important things. You can be on your iPhone or Blackberry less, and be disconnected sometimes. Your environment doesn’t control your life — you do.

I’m not going to tell you how to take responsibility for your life, but once you make the decision, the how will become apparent over time.

Tips for a Slower-Paced Life

I can’t give you a step-by-step guide to moving slower, but here are some things to consider and perhaps adopt, if they work for your life. Some things might require you to change some major things, but they can be done over time.

Do less. Cut back on your projects, on your task list, on how much you try to do each day. Focus not on quantity but quality. Pick 2-3 important things — or even just one important thing — and work on those first. Save smaller, routine tasks for later in the day, but give yourself time to focus. Read more.

Have fewer meetings. Meetings are usually a big waste of time. And they eat into your day, forcing you to squeeze the things you really need to do into small windows, and making you rush. Try to have blocks of time with no interruptions, so you don’t have to rush from one meeting to another.

Practice disconnecting. Have times when you turn off your devices and your email notifications and whatnot. Time with no phone calls, when you’re just creating, or when you’re just spending time with someone, or just reading a book, or just taking a walk, or just eating mindfully. You can even disconnect for (gasp!) an entire day, and you won’t be hurt. I promise.

Give yourself time to get ready and get there. If you’re constantly rushing to appointments or other places you have to be, it’s because you don’t allot enough time in your schedule for preparing and for traveling. Pad your schedule to allow time for this stuff. If you think it only takes you 10 minutes to get ready for work or a date, perhaps give yourself 30-45 minutes so you don’t have to shave in a rush or put on makeup in the car. If you think you can get there in 10 minutes, perhaps give yourself 2-3 times that amount so you can go at a leisurely pace and maybe even get there early.

Practice being comfortable with sitting, doing nothing. One thing I’ve noticed is that when people have to wait, they become impatient or uncomfortable. They want their mobile device or at least a magazine, because standing and waiting is either a waste of time or something they’re not used to doing without feeling self-conscious. Instead, try just sitting there, looking around, soaking in your surroundings. Try standing in line and just watching and listening to people around you. It takes practice, but after awhile, you’ll do it with a smile.

Realize that if it doesn’t get done, that’s OK. There’s always tomorrow. And yes, I know that’s a frustrating attitude for some of you who don’t like laziness or procrastination or living without firm deadlines, but it’s also reality. The world likely won’t end if you don’t get that task done today. Your boss might get mad, but the company won’t collapse and the life will inevitably go on. And the things that need to get done will.

Start to eliminate the unnecessary. When you do the important things with focus, without rush, there will be things that get pushed back, that don’t get done. And you need to ask yourself: how necessary are these things? What would happen if I stopped doing them? How can I eliminate them, delegate them, automate them?

Practice mindfulness. Simply learn to live in the present, rather than thinking so much about the future or the past. When you eat, fully appreciate your food. When you’re with someone, be with them fully. When you’re walking, appreciate your surroundings, no matter where you are. Read this for more, and also try The Mindfulist.

Slowly eliminate commitments. We’re overcommitted, which is why we’re rushing around so much. I don’t just mean with work — projects and meetings and the like. Parents have tons of things to do with and for their kids, and we overcommit our kids as well. Many of us have busy social lives, or civic commitments, or are coaching or playing on sports teams. We have classes and groups and hobbies. But in trying to cram so much into our lives, we’re actually deteriorating the quality of those lives. Slowly eliminate commitments — pick 4-5 essential ones, and realize that the rest, while nice or important, just don’t fit right now. Politely inform people, over time, that you don’t have time to stick to those commitments.

Try these things out. Life is better when unrushed. And given the fleeting nature of this life, why waste even a moment by rushing through it?

Remember the quote above: if nature can get everything done without rushing, so can you.

Working for money versus Working for a purpose

You know how the saying goes: “Find something you’re passionate about and the money will follow?”

Working for money is a necessary evil, but it doesn’t have to be evil
You definitely need money, there’s no question about it.. but if you are going to spend 40 – 60 hours of your life on your job, why not find something you like?

It’s interesting to note that the people who work only for money, aren’t happy, even if they’re making bank in the high 6 figures.

In fact, they’re anxious, stressed out and worried.

But it doesn’t have to be unpleasant because there are many people who do love their jobs…

How can you know if it’s the right job for you? You haven’t tried anything else….
Simple.

I love what I’m doing. I don’t need to do another job to confirm that I really loved my previous job.

If I didn’t love what I was doing, I would be looking for something else.

It’s never too late.

It’s like trying to find a partner for life — sometimes you need to date all the frogs before finding your Prince, but sometimes your Prince just appears and you know it.

Negativity is an easy trap to succumb to, but you just know when you’ve found what you enjoy to do, because the good parts outweigh the bad.

I just don’t want to stress out about finding the perfect job.

No job is ever going to be perfect! There are ALWAYS pros and cons, it’s just a matter of whether the pros weigh out the cons.

Why working only for the money sucks
It’s a vicious cycle.

All they’re doing, is waiting time out in an office somewhere, watching the clock for when it ticks to 5:00 p.m., and then to rush out the door towards freedom.

Then on their off hours, they feel sad or depressed about their job, and go out to spend (retail therapy) to make themselves feel better.

A new TV.

A new car.

…and it all cycles into a funnel of creating more debt, which makes them depend on the money from their job even more.

It never ends.

Break the cycle
Acknowledge that there is a cycle of some sort of coping mechanism being used – when I was unhappy at some points of my earlier jobs, I shopped.

Some people eat.

Recognize the coping mechanism used and when you feel the urge to shop, eat or whatever it is you do, find a more positive activity.

I tried very hard to change my shopping habit into an organizing habit.

When I get stressed, I make lists.

I organize.

I back up my data.

I arrange my necklaces neatly and play with them.

I arrange all my clothes by type, then by colour.

These are all the new coping mechanisms I’ve created to help myself deal with an upsetting or depressing situation.

Work backwards
So how the heck does anyone find what they’re passionate about?

Go the other way and use the elimination process.

So instead of trying to figure out the perfect job, try and figure out what you would HATE as a job.

Create two columns: Want and Do Not Want

If you hate to create flow charts and organize, put that down on your “DO NOT WANT” side.

You can also think about what you do enjoy: working with a team or working independently, and from there, a list of skills you want and don’t want to perform will appear.

After that starting point, you will be able to try and find a job that best matches the description.

I should mention that keeping an open mind helps – sometimes the unlikeliest job is the one you end up loving, so volunteer for every little project and give everything a chance.

I wasn’t sold on the job that I am currently doing, but I’m glad I gave it a chance (past a year) and now I love it.

A job should make you feel good most of the time, and make you feel like you’re making a difference at the company, the world or for yourself.

What it shouldn’t do, is make you have dark, depressing thoughts.

So do you work just for the money, or for a purpose?

1. Stop trying to change what you can’t. You might be able to change your situation with drastic moves, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Instead, let go of the wishes you have that things were different. Things aren’t different, and wishing they were different just leads to frustrations. Accept things for what they are, see people for who they are, and work with that reality.

2. Figure out what you can change. Even if you have few freedoms, there are always small things you can change. Can you spend a few minutes doing sitting meditation? Can you eat more fruits & veggies? Can you walk more? Can you watch less TV and find a few minutes to create? Can you blog? Can you do some pushups in your room? Can you learn to be more grateful in every interaction with others? Can you slow down a bit? Can you smile more? There are lots and lots of small changes you can make, even if you can’t make the big ones you’d like to make.

3. You can always change your mind. Learn to live in the moment. Learn to be mindful of your thoughts. Learn to squash negative thinking. Learn to see the opportunities in everything. Learn to see mistakes and failures as an opportunity to learn and improve. Learn to be grateful, and compassionate, and kind.

4. Learn to live without control. If you don’t control much of your life, guess what? You’re like the rest of us. We only think we have control over our lives, but it’s an illusion. Instead, learn to give up that control, and deal moment to moment with what comes.

Currently I am so into holidaying-travelling mood. Doesn't Sagittarius love to roam around the earth. Somehow I feel I am a tiny little winy bit nearer to the life that I wanted; travel overseas once a month or in a few month. The most interesting part of travelling overseas is to explore those local traditional uncommon places. Those touristy places are too boring. I always love those travel TV shows whereby they go to places that are far unreachable easily by tourists. I am also very obessed with places that are cultural-rich, be it temples, eateries, shopping malls, street food stores, mountain, forest, lakes, rivers or watsoever.

Rule #12 Speak in plain, soft words. Everyone is slowly raising their voice to be heard in the crowd. Soon, the whole world will be shouting.

Oh yeah, so long never update my clearing mission. Finally I get rid of all my thick and heavy magazines. The table seems to breathe normally after a few years of holding heavy stuffs for me. I get rid of all except 2 copies in case I need it for handicraft. Next up, I need to return all the borrowed books and delayed presents to my friends. I need to clear the clothes and spoilt laptop; either will seel it or donate it. Before school start, all the rubbish had to leave!

Can you give a specific answer on what makes you happy? It is not as easy as it sounds.

You may not have noticed, but people are exceptionally good in spotting what makes them unhappy.

Interestingly enough, they have a hard time on defining specifically what makes them happy indeed. People love to complain. They complain about many things: money, love, friends, work, or their life in general. But happiness is hard to define.

Can you give a straightforward answer to that question? Many will give philosophically undefined thoughts that finding balance in life will get you a happy life. Well, the trouble with this is, how do you know what is balanced? Where to draw the line?

I will make an effort to write my own answer. Remember that happiness factors are individual and relative. They are individual because what works for me and what makes me happy does not necessarily makes you or other people happy. Happiness factors are also relative because people determine what impacts on their happiness level based on the neighboring social environment. What this means is that people get lower happiness level if they find out that their friends/relatives/coworkers earn more, but nobody cares that Bill Gates earns millions of dollars per year! (This example also shows that money has impact on happiness, but that is a story for another time)

Here is my happiness-list:

Health. Nothing makes me happier than being healthy. I am thankful waking up each day with no pain. When I am healthy, I can dream, wish and act for obtaining anything else. If I am healthy, I am as competent as anybody else on Earth to strive for other achievements. Remember that ill people have only wish, while the healthy have thousands. I am grateful for that.

Security. Being secure means that I don’t have to care for various stuff ranging from shelter to clothes and food. So far this is very much according to the pyramid of needs, but being secure allows me to further be care-free.

Being Care-free. Being care-free makes me happy because it keeps my inner peace and helps me maintain my health, essential for being happy in first place. I set myself care-free by not having to worry about bills, food, clothes, getting up with alarm, rushing to work or any other kind of stress.

Good Social Relationships. Having satisfying good relationships with other people estimates the value of your personality and personality is a replica of who you really are. Being appreciated by other persons means that your personality as it is is very valuable.

Wealth. Here I refer to wealth in financial context. I want to be wealthy because money helps me establish security and thus I can “buy back” my time to do things I enjoy. My way of of becoming wealthy is through frugality and accumulating money.

Learning. Learning new stuff gives me satisfaction of achievement and motivates me even further to learn more. Learning is indeed exciting! I intend to learn to cook and repair things at home because I won’t be able to live with my parents forever.

For me, my happiness list is:
1. freedom
2. health
3. exploring new places & things
4. having good listening ears
5. wealth

Rule #11 Sit still, enjoy it. We’re not used to stopping, even for a short time. Let go of everything else and just be.

This is the magic well with magic water!? Many use it to water hand and face. Some even use it to bath in the 12 zodiac bathroom facing the well. Some use it to wash car plate number.

1. No one asked for my advice. Except in the rare instance when people specifically ask me for help clearing their clutter, raising their children, or deciding their careers, I should keep my advice to myself.

2. I don’t know the whole story. It’s very easy to assume that I understand a situation and to form a judgment when in fact, I understand almost nothing about what’s happening.

3. It doesn’t affect me. A friend was all worked up about some stupid thing a celebrity did – she was really, truly annoyed. I wanted to say, “You don’t know this person, you’ve never even seen her in person. Why let yourself get so upset about something that has no possible affect on you?” And I remind myself of the same thing.

4. It's a Secret of Adulthood: Just because something makes me happy doesn’t mean that it will make someone else happy, and vice versa. I often fight the impulse to be a happiness bully, but what works for me might not work for someone else. I remind myself of the negative example of Thoreau: I almost can’t bear to read Thoreau's Walden, because he's so disdainful of other people’s tastes and values. When he writes about his own experience and views, I find his work very compelling, but he’s very judgmental and dismissive of any different vision of a happy life.

5. Don’t gossip.

6. I’m on someone else’s turf. I’m puzzled by my mother-in-law’s habit of keeping her toaster unplugged. Why -- why keep the toaster unplugged? Whenever I want to challenge her to defend her unplugged-toaster position, I remind myself, “This is her apartment and her rule. Unplug the toaster.” (I have to confess, I usually forget to unplug it. But I mean to unplug it.)

7. Find explanations in charity. One of my favorite writers, Flannery O’Connor, wrote in a letter to a friend: “From 15 to 18 is an age at which one is very sensitive to the sins of others, as I know from recollections of myself. At that age you don’t look for what is hidden. It is a sign of maturity not to be scandalized and to try to find explanations in charity.”

Seriously most of the people who gone through a lot of history and long experiences always fake smile.
Smile for the sake of not getting conflict face to face but back to back.
I am quite disappointed with myself for doing the same too.
But no choice, what to do when I seriously had no experience on how to handle this kind situation.
I guess time will give me the best possible answer.
Who ask me to be the kind soul of everyone whom helped out others even though people stab me at the back and hurt me deeply.
I find that I can't bring myself to show my hatred in front of their face. I had hatred face phobia.

So many people who inspired me changed themselves and show their true color.
But it is alright, the old ones left, the new ones came and give me better and beautiful inspiration.
I love exploring into new things and keep the worthy ones by my side forever.

Anyway, life is really hectic sometimes. However we should try our best to avoid the unhappiness as much as possible as it increase the speed of aging.
I don't want all my body systems to lose their functions so fast.
I want to remain young even though I am old.
I guess I can only feel happy when my work is something I love to do.

Some people are never content at all.
Every minute every second, you are thinking what was done wrong instead of appreciating the goodness in every single happening.
I don't understand how would bringing unhappiness to others bring happiness to yourself?
In fact, you are accumulating more unhappiness to yourself because your level of expectations increase.
One day you will realise you will never be happy again because you are too busy creating unhappiness to others.
Sometimes looking at the big picture, I really need to sympathise you cause it is because we are competitors so you are overcomed with jealous hence decreased sense of security, feeling of belongingness.
It could also be you feel not accepted and not respected by others.
Thinking through, it sound really pathetic.
I am so not gonna be such kind of person, I bring happiness to others and increased my own happiness.
Even for people for people who bring unhappiness with others, I will still empathise you and bring you happiness to fill you life gaps.

Love it most to leave the house before the sun is out for holidays or Malaysia outing purposes. Hate it most when it is not. This is one of my biggest unhappiness in the world.

Rule #8 Find joy in little things, like kittens and rain drops. Big picture people tend to be happy when things are going well. Small picture people have a billion reasons to be happy, everyday.

We should be happy as much as possible. Never have the opportunities to let unhappiness enter your life. Seriously, life have too much for you to feel unhappy with, but if you look at it with a different prespective, maybe you will feel happier and benefits more from it.

Start small before you go big. Don't leave a hole in the big picture and you won't feel happy with the overall things.
